International Postgraduate Scholarships

A variety of scholarship programs and educational grants are available to students who wish to pursue postgraduate studies in another country. There are several sources of international postgraduate scholarships, including international organizations, institutions dedicated to cultural exchange and even the United States government. Many scholarships for international study also include funds for travel and language study.
  1. Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarships

    • The Rotary Foundation provides scholarship assistance for international study through the Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarships Program. Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarships are awarded in the amount of $26,000 and are intended to fund one full academic year of study in another country. This grant money may be used to pay for the cost of tuition, fees, textbooks, room and board, travel expenses and a month of intensive language training. Application deadlines vary by individual Rotary club.

    CIEE Scholarships

    • The Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) sponsors a number of scholarships to assist students to undertake postgraduate study in another country. John E. Bowman Travel Grants are awarded in the amount of $1,000 to help students defray the cost of travel. Robert B. Bailey Scholarships are awarded in the amount of $1,500 for students undertaking study for one year or more; preference is given to applicants who belong to an ethnic minority group. Peter Wollitzer Scholarships for Study in Asia are available in the amount of $2,000 to students pursuing postgraduate study in one of eight East Asian and Southeast Asian countries.

    U.S. Fulbright Scholarships

    • The U.S. State Department provides scholarship assistance for postgraduate study through the Fulbright Scholarship Program. Fulbright Scholarships pay for round-trip transportation to the host country, living costs such as room and board and health insurance, the cost of tuition and textbooks, as well as a language study course if necessary. To be eligible, a student must be a citizen of the United States, must hold a bachelor's degree, must be in good health and must have a reasonable proficiency in the written and spoken language of the host country where he plans to study.
