Automotive Tech Scholarships

There are a variety of scholarships available to students pursuing a career in automotive technology and the automotive trades. These scholarships are available from a variety of sources, including manufacturers of auto parts and supplies, as well as professional organizations of automotive technicians. Some automotive tech scholarships help students defray the costs of school tuition, while others assist students with education-related expenses, such as the cost of tools.
  1. Castrol-Syntec Eric Medlen Scholarship Program

    • Castrol-Syntec, a manufacturer of auto supplies and lubricants, provides scholarship money for aspiring automotive technicians through the Eric Medlen Scholarship Program. This essay contest awards a $10,000 grand prize, $5,000 first prize, and $2,500 second prize. Contestants must compose an essay of 500 words or less explaining why they should win the contest. In order to be eligible, a contestant must be between the ages of 16 and 25, a legal resident of the United States, and pursuing an education in automotive technology.     AYES Scholarships

    • Automotive Youth Educational Systems provides two scholarships for automotive tech students. Each year, the John F. Smith Scholarship Program awards several two-year scholarships of $5,000 each. In order to be eligible, a student must be pursuing a two-year or four-year college or university program in automotive engineering and must have completed an AYES program and internship. Scholarship funds may be used to pay for tuition, fees, room and board, as well as supplies such as books and tools. Students must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better. In addition, AYES has partnered with Snap-On to offer the "Student Excellence Program," which allows automotive students to purchase tools at discounted prices once they have provided proof of enrollment.     GAAS Scholarships

    • The Global Automotive Aftermarket Symposium (GAAS) provides scholarship assistance to automotive tech students each year through its scholarship program. GAAS scholarships are awarded in amounts ranging from $250 to $2,000. To be eligible, a student must be a graduating high school senior or have graduated from high school within the past two years. The candidate must also be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States or Canada and preparing to undertake a full-time, undergraduate course of study. The annual deadline for application is March 31. Interested students should visit the GAAS website to fill out an electronic application.
