Texas Game Warden Scholarships

On the front lines of protecting wildlife in the second largest U.S. state, Texas game wardens are trained for an elite job. With only 500 working in 27 field offices across the state as of 2010, they have wide-ranging duties, from wildlife management to law-enforcement. To promote the important role of game wardens in Texas, there are a few student scholarships available.
  1. Texas Game Warden Association

    • Game wardens in Texas protect all wildlife in the state, including Texas wild pigs.

Since 1984, the Texas Game Warden Association has been awarding scholarships to lower-income students enrolled in a state college or university. While there's no specific requirement that recipients pursue an education in wildlife law enforcement, it's a consideration in the application process. To be eligible, applicants must demonstrate financial need, academic excellence, community service and depth of character through references from non-family members. Students with a prior criminal history will not be considered.

Scholarship recipients are awarded $6,800 each, to be paid in eight installments of $850. After each installment---paid every spring and fall---recipients are evaluated to ensure they're maintaining their eligibility requirements. A minimum of 12 semester hours with a minimum GPA of 2.8 is the standard. The association can revoke scholarships at any time.
