A partial list of sources for scholarships from the federal government for graduate school includes the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the U.S. Department of Education, the U.S. Bureau of Health Professions, the U.S. Department of Energy, the National Institute of Health, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Department of Veterans' Affairs. The American Association for University Women (AAUW) is a nationwide network of donors and universities. The AAUW awards $5,000 to $20,000 scholarships to women in graduate or post-graduate degree programs. The AAUW awards additional funds to African American women pursuing graduate degrees in business, law or medicine. The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) awards graduate scholarships to women pursuing careers in engineering. SWE advances women to become leaders in the engineering field. Graduate level scholarships for women in the arts are available for art history, art awareness of the environment, textile design, sculpture and for designers of studios. Asian graduate students in the fields of law and journalism receive merit based scholarships from cultural organizations. Native Americans qualify for graduate scholarships from tribal colleges and universities. The Point Foundation provides scholarships for gay and lesbian graduate students. Children of gay parents may also apply. The Point Foundation helps "marginalized" students meet their educational goals. Minority scholarships exist for graduate students less than 4'10" tall. The United Negro College Fund administers the Gates Millennium Scholars Program to increase the number of Black, Hispanic, American Indian, Alaskan Native and Asian students completing graduate studies. The United Negro College Fund provides scholarships for graduate students and operating funds for participating colleges. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Millennium Scholars initiative expands equal access to graduate education.
