Athens Technical college holds free GED preparation classes at several Adult Learning Centers in the greater Athens area and on two of the college's campuses. According to the school, "The courses are individualized in order to address each participant's own unique needs." English as second language classes are offered in addition to traditional instruction. Personal life skills training and assessment along with job training are free of charge.
Just half an hour outside of Athens lies Lawrenceville, Georgia, the home of Gwinnett Technical College. Gwinnett offers classes free of charge. Classes are held day and evening -- year round -- at three different campuses around the city. An initial assessment is required before attending any of the classes.
You can find the Lanier Technical College GED classes at high schools in the eight surrounding counties of Georgia and on the Lanier campus in Oakwood. All assessments and training are free of charge for all students. For non-English speakers, Lanier offers basic English training in preparation for the features of the GED.
Dekalb Technical College, located between Athens and Atlanta, offers free GED prep classes through Dekalb county and the surround suburbs of Atlanta. Because of a recent change in state law, classes remain available only to legal U.S. citizens or immigrants with green cards. Free classes along with free in-class books will be provided to qualified individuals. Individual instruction is available to all students.
