Schools for GED Courses

The GED, or General Educational Development, test provides individuals with the equivalent of a high school diploma that can allow them to obtain a job or enter college. GED courses offer training to prepare you to complete the five sections of the GED exam. The cost of these preparation classes varies. The locations and number of schools that provide GED training also vary based on your location.
  1. Community Colleges

    • Community colleges in many states provide training for GED testing. A list of GED courses at the community colleges in your area can be found by visiting the ACE GED website (see Resources).

    High Schools

    • Several high schools offer GED training classes to those who previously attended the school or are near school age. The age requirements will vary by location. These training courses are usually free. You can contact your local school district to find out which high schools offer GED preparation and what the requirements are for these classes.

    Specialized Classes

    • Specialized GED classes are offered in various areas for various fees. These classes are held in the day, evening or night at community centers, churches and other non-school locations. The classes are taught by accredited professionals through private organizations, and test material is provided in most cases. The availability of these classes varies based on your location.

    Traditional Colleges

    • Traditional colleges and universities offer GED preparation classes for a fee. These colleges also may offer students the opportunity to complete the exam at the school and may include the testing fee with the fee for training. The age requirements for the training class may vary, so call the school to verify the eligibility requirements.
