    Community Impact at Columbia University

    • For over 20 years, Community Impact has been offering GED classes at Columbia University, a prestigious Ivy League university. CI offers classes on the Columbia campus and at satellite locations in Harlem, with morning and evening classes in English and an evening class in Spanish. All CI teachers are carefully chosen volunteers, and teach only one GED subject area, so students will have different teachers for math, social studies, reading and writing, and science. Students generally must be 19 years old to take classes, but 18-year-olds can also be accepted with an interview. Students are grouped as pre-GED if they will need more than one semester to prepare for the GED test, as intermediate if they plan on taking the GED test after one semester, and as advanced if they plan on taking the test and applying to colleges.
