There are nine elementary schools located in the Wayne. Each of these schools offers grades one through five, offering core subjects as well as before- and after-school programs. Bus services are available for qualifying students. Wayne's public school system also offers Wayne Preschool for pre-kindergarten children with two sessions per day. Wayne Preschool has a fee of $350 per month for a five-day school week or $180 per month for a three-day week.
There are three middle schools in Wayne: George Washington, Schuyler-Colfax and Anthony Wayne. George Washington Middle School is a William Paterson University Professional Development School-Partnerships for Success affiliate, which concentrates on students' preparation for college. Schuyler-Colfax Middle School's mission is to prepare youth for learning throughout their lives by fostering student growth in creativity, intellect and physical abilities, as well as instilling a sense of responsibility, self-worth and respect. Anthony Wayne Middle School was re-established in 2005 as the third middle school in Wayne. Before- and after-school programs are not available in Wayne's middle schools.
There are two high schools in Wayne offering grades nine through 12. "Newsweek Magazine" named Wayne Valley High School as one of America's top high schools in its annual list of the top 1,600 high schools in 2010. The school hosts a primarily suburban population, offering a comprehensive high school curriculum with the following areas of focus: college preparatory, occupational/career training or secretarial/ business. The township's other high school is Wayne Hills High School, which was rated as the top high school in Passaic County for 2010 by "New Jersey Monthly Magazine."
Wayne Community Programs offers discretionary educational and recreational programs for the community, including driver's education, Wayne Adult School and Extended Day Programming for children requiring after-school care. Wayne Community Programs also offers Safety Town for children who are eligible for kindergarten.
William Patterson University in Wayne offers 44 undergraduate degrees and 22 graduate programs with more than 500 courses between five colleges. It also offers credit and non-credit online and continuing education courses, catering to mature students and those requiring flexibility in their academic schedules.
There are 10 private schools located in Wayne offering a range of faith-based opportunities and alternative learning programs. Private schools offer schooling for children of pre-kindergarten age through grade 12, including five non-sectarian schools, four Roman Catholic Schools, and the Calvary Christian Academy.
