Determine whether your state requires all students to complete a geometry course. Some states list specific classes high schoolers must pass, while others only require a certain number of years of math instruction. Most parents will find geometry is required, but advanced mathematics is not, so it is best to pair these courses in the same year.
Issue the Saxon Math Placement Test --- Upper Grades to your child after completion of the Saxon Algebra 1 or Algebra 2 course. The test is available for free online and includes a grading key for parents.
Purchase the Saxon Geometry Kit with Solutions Manual if your child scored well on the algebra sections, but received lower correct percentages in advanced mathematics and calculus.
Examine the Saxon Advanced Mathematics material. If your child is gifted in math, it is possible to complete the entire geometry and advanced math courses in the same year. If math is a challenge, teach geometry-related concepts found in Lessons 1, 2, 3, 11 and 12. As a last resort, the advanced mathematics curriculum may be eliminated altogether.
Administer Saxon geometry tests as indicated at the appropriate times according to curriculum instructions. Assign grades based on a standard 100-point scoring scale.
Record course grades for accurate high school transcripts.
