Work with geometric terms. Understanding the difference between perimeter, circumference and area will help students no matter what geometric topics they encounter later on.
Reinforce properties of basic shapes. Students should return to shapes they have encountered in elementary school, such as triangles, circles and rectangles (more complex figures are also used in geometry, but not at this stage).
Introduce the concept of angles. Start with basics such as a triangle having 180 degrees, and the definition of a right angle.
Combine shape properties and angle information into basic problems. At this stage, students will not have to work with complex figures; therefore, triangles with one missing angle, circles with a given area where students need to find the circumference, and other problems asking for geometry basics will prepare students well for the more complex math that awaits them in high school.
