Create scorecards for both teams. You should create a scorecard for the affirmative team and one for the negative team. The affirmative team is a group of debaters that are for the topic in question and the negative team is the group that is against the topic in question.
Grade the debaters' performance on a scale of four to one. California State University Northridge states that four is the highest score and one is the lowest.
Grade each team on organization and clarity. California State University states that graders should determine if the presentation was clear and orderly. If the team was completely clear, give them a four, a team that was mostly clear would get a three and a team that was completely unclear would get a one.
Grade both teams on their argument and rebuttal. Each team should have a persuasive argument. In addition to the persuasive arguments, the team should develop a strong rebuttal when the opposite team makes a claim. You should grade this topic according to the four to one grade scale.
Grade each team on presentation style. California State University states that each team member should have an appropriate tone of voice which is clear and the presentation should keep the audience's interests. This should be graded on the four to one grade scale.
Add up the scores on both scorecards and divide the affirmative team's score by four and divide the negative team's score by four. The result will be each team's overall grade.
