Satellite Home School Programs for Georgia

Many parents want to educate their children at home due to concerns about public education, a desire for a Christian education, or behavior or academic difficulties with their child. Any school not situated at a regular school building is considered to be a satellite school. In Georgia, this includes regular home school programs, online educational options, or long-distance private options.
  1. Contact Guidance Counselor

    • Before beginning a satellite education program, contact the school's guidance counselor for assistance. Ensure that your student is taking all of the necessary classes in order to advance to the next grade. Some satellite programs require guidance counselor permission, such as Georgia Virtual School.

    Public Online Satellite Programs

    • Various satellite online educational options are available for your home-schooled Georgia student. The Georgia Virtual School can be used in additional to district schooling or as the sole educational option. In addition, a home-schooled student can attend the Georgia Cyber Academy online, which offers classes for kindergarten through 12th grade.

    Private Satellite Online Programs

    • You also have the option of enrolling your child in a private satellite online program. Many of these private options are religious based. Check with your child's school district to ensure the curriculum meets Georgia educational requirements before enrolling your child.

    Curriculum for Satellite Home Schooling

    • Various curriculums are available for Georgia home school students. Some school districts allow a parent to use the districts textbooks if desired. The Georgia Home Education Association can serve as your reference point for curriculum and satellite educational information (see Resources).
