The Boston Higashi School is an international educational program for children with autism. The Boston Higashi School utilizes the Daily Life Therapy method of teaching created by Dr. Kiyo Kitahara from Tokyo, Japan. The tenets of the Daily Life Therapy Method include exercise to relieve stress and anxiety, the management of emotions through a stable and predictable environments and the importance of each child with autism growing individually by developing self reliance. The classrooms at the Boston Higashi School are arranged to encourage social interaction between students. Along with the regular educational curriculum, students are taught body language, communication skills, refinement of fine and gross motor skills and coping with sensory sensitivity. The Boston Higashi School works individually with each student as determined by their Individual Educational Plans, or IEPs. The Boston Higashi School admits children with an autism spectrum disorder from ages 3 to 22. Parents must include referral and medical forms with their application, and an interview will be conducted with the parent and student to evaluate how well they will adjust to the environment at the Boston Higashi School.
