Before beginning your child's home school program, you must file a written notice of intent with your school district. This notice should include information such as the age and full name of your child. Colorado requires you to resubmit this notice each year.
Home school programs in Colorado should cover subjects such as math, history, writing, science, the Constitution, civics and reading. Programs should provide at least four hours of instruction on 172 days each year. In grades three, five, seven, nine and 11, home-schooled children must complete tests of their progress.
As an alternative to traditional home schooling, students can attend an online-only school. Douglas County School District offers Colorado Cyber, a K-12 program for students living anywhere in the state. This program provides a set curriculum and the opportunity to interact with other children.
