How to Type a MLA Style Works Cited Page

Modern Language Association style, better known as MLA style, is a series of writing guidelines that have been standardized throughout the education world as well as in the fields of journalism and publishing. According to MLA guidelines, academic research papers must include a Works Cited page that lists all sources used by the author.

Instructions

    • 1

Alphabetize your list of sources by last name on a new page at the end of your paper. Sources are listed by author first to help the reader reference in-text citations. For each source, begin with the author's last name, followed by a comma, then the first name. A period should follow the name of the author. Example: Johnson, Bob.

    • 2

Follow the author's name with the underlined title and subtitle of the publication, with a period at the end.

    • 3

Find the place of publication, the publisher and the date of publication and enter this information after the publication name with a colon separating the place of publication from the publisher. For example: New York: Acme Publishing, 2010.

    • 4

Indent the second line of all separate Works Cited entries.
