Center the words Works Cited at the top of a separate page at the end of your paper. Do not italicize or place the words Works Cited in quotation marks.
Double-space all text on the Works Cited page just as you do in the rest of your paper. Indent the second and all subsequent lines of each entry five spaces to create a hanging indent. Order citations alphabetically by the author's last name.
MLA requires that you italicize the title of the book. At the end of the citation, you must note the medium of publication. Cite books with one author in this format:
Walls, Jeannette. The Glass Castle. New York: Scribner, 2005. Print.
List books with two authors as follows:
Jones, Paul, and Nick Lost. Captivating Writing. New York: Random House, 2010. Print.
For books with three or more authors, MLA permits use of "et al." after the first author's name.
Document scholarly journal articles in your Works Cited list by following this example; italicize the name of the journal.
Martin, Emil. "The Problem with Parking Lots." Journal of Planning Literature 72.12 (2004): 101-13. Print.
