Figure out what style you should use for your Works Cited list. MLA style is most frequently used for academic papers. APA style is generally used for research papers in the sciences and is most frequently first introduced at the college level. CBE and Chicago styles are very rarely used.
For a book with one author, in MLA style: Author's last name, first name. Title of the book. City of publication: Publisher, Year of publication.
The title should be in italics. If there is more than one publication city, then you should choose the first one listed.
For a book with one author, in APA style: Author's last name, first and middle initial. (Year of publication). Title of publication. City of publication: Publisher.
The title should be in italics and only the first word should be capitalized.
For other less typical types of sources, such as a photograph or an interview, you can easily find a citation generator or citation machine on the internet. NoodleTools is a reputable website for doing so. You simply input information where prompted, and then click "Generate citation."
Once you have all your citations made, compile them into a Word document. Put "Works Cited" as your title at the top center of the page. Then, list each citation by alphabetical order, based on the author's last name. If the citation exceeds one line in the Word Document, then press the tab button on the next line so that the second line is indented. Do this for every line that follows. The only line that should not be indented is the first one.
