How to Write the Name of a Book in a Bibliography

Citing sources in an essay bibliography identifies source material and adds credibility. The most widely used forms of citation include: Modern Language Association (MLA), American Psychological Association (APA), Chicago Manual of Style (CMS) and the Columbia Online Style (COS). Each of these styles utilize different variations of citation for various fields, including the humanities, social sciences, news organizations and electronic publications.

Cite book sources according to MLA format: author's last name, first name, book title, additional information, city of publication, publishing company and publication date. Adopt the Columbia Online Style synthesizing several different citation methods according to industry. For example, humanities citations will format exactly like MLA or CMS bibliographies. Cite an electronic book according to COS by: author's last name, first name, title of work, title of longer work, date of document, Internet address and Date accessed. For example: Hatchuel, Sarah. "Leading the Gaze: From Showing to Telling in Kenneth Branagh's Henry V and Hamlet." Early Modern Literary Studies. May 2000. http://www.shu.ac.uk/emls/06-1/06-1toc.htm (1 Sept. 2000).
