How to Place a Works Cited Source With MLA

The Modern Language Association mandates a specific style for citing sources in an academic paper. One of the most important aspects of proper academic citation under MLA style is a comprehensive list of the works cited. This list gives readers complete information about your sources, and the ability to access them for their own use. Proper MLA style places the works cited page at the end of the paper.

Instructions

    • 1

Compile a list of all the sources used throughout your paper.

    • 2

Format these sources using standard MLA style. The Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL) describes the basic format of a Works Cited entry as "Author. Title. Location of publisher: Publisher or publication title, date of publication." For example, a book would be cited in the following way: "Uzawa, Hirofumi. Economic Theory and Global Warming. Cambridge, United Kingdom: Cambridge University Press, 2003."

    • 3

Place this list on a new page, immediately after the conclusion of the paper but before any appendices.

    • 4

Label this page "Works Cited." Center the text, but do not italicize this title.
