Write down the book of the Bible you wish the cite, along with the chapter and verse. Locate the name of the Bible's publisher, city of publication, publication date, year of publication, version of the Bible and any editors. This information is found on or near the title page.
Use in-text citation, also called a parenthetical citation, to cite within your paper. In-text citations are placed in parentheses and inserted directly after the information you wish to cite. The first citation you make should state the name of the Bible version you're using at the start of your citation. You won't have to include this information with further citations unless you begin using a different Bible. Place a comma after the version name, then the abbreviated name of the book, then the chapter and verse. The chapter and verse are written numerically and separated by a period. If multiple verses or chapters are cited, separate the first and last chapter or verse with a dash. For example, to cite a King James Bible passage from Ezekiel, chapter one, verses 5-10, write: (The King James Bible, Ezek. 1.5-10)
Cite the work in your bibliography, or works cited, in a separate reference section at the end of your paper. To cite the Bible you used, insert your information into the following layout: "Title of the Bible in Italics. Ed. Name of Editor. City of Publication: Country of Publication, Year of Publication. Media Format." The following example, provided by Purdue University, shows what these citations look when completed, without Italics: "The New Jerusalem Bible. Ed. Susan Jones. New York: Doubleday, 1985. Print."
