How to Cite the King James Bible in APA

As a potential source of moral and spiritual guidance, the Bible is a controversial yet important part of human thought. One of the most widely-read variants is the King James Version (KJV), first published in 1611. As such, you may need to cite the Bible when working on a research paper in the APA format.

Instructions

    • 1

Record the book and passage that you intend to cite. For example, you may be citing Matthew 6:6.

    • 2

Add your book and passage information immediately after the sentence in which you cite the King James Version. Continuing the example, use this in-line citation: (Matthew 6:6 King James Version).

    • 3

Format subsequent citations in-line by referring to their book and chapter number only, such as: (Exodus 22:20). You do not need to restate the version of the Bible used, unless you are citing multiple versions.
