How to Document in an APA Machine

Citation machines are meant to generate perfectly-formatted citations for writers. Using an APA citation machine has the potential to save those without a general citation guide the time it takes to properly format a work's referenced page. A citation machine works by having writers input the necessary information into an online guide, after which the program organizes the information into the proper order, adding punctuation at the appropriate positions. There are multiple types of citation machines. This guide is meant for those most commonly found online.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the citation machine. Choose the formatting type you require. In this case, you will choose "APA Style."

    • 2

Determine whether you are citing from a print or non-print (electronic) source. Choose the type of document from which you have cited. If print, it could be a book, a journal, a newspaper or other print source. If non-print, you may have an online magazine or Web-based media.

    • 3

Type in the required information. You will need to know the author's names, the publishing year, the title of the work and page numbers. That is just the basic information. Most citations will require more than just those few items. The citation machine will tell writers all the different items they need to know.

    • 4

Click on the "generate" or "submit" button, indicating to the citation machine where you have entered all of the required information.

    • 5

Check the citation to make sure all of the information you have entered made it into the final edition.
