Write the citation information in the text directly. For example, write a sentence such as, "In a lecture on May 3, 2011, in Sociology 101, Professor M. Smith stated..." Giving the citation in this manner shows who said the statement, when it was spoken and that you heard the information firsthand.
Give the speaker's name directly and put the rest of the information in brackets. In APA style, you would write something like, "According to Professor M. Smith (Sociology 101 lecture, May 3, 2011)..." The information that the citation is from a lecture is given directly after the teacher's name.
Write all of the citation information in brackets. You can give all of the citation information in brackets in APA style as long as you are paraphrasing rather than directly quoting. In this method, you first write the paraphrased statement in full and then put the bracketed citation. For example, write "Freud's theory...(Professor M. Smith, Sociology 101 lecture, May 3, 2011)." The period is outside the last bracket in this citation option.
