How to Cite a Movie With Two Directors in the APA Style

The American Psychological Association (APA) designed a citation style to establish guidelines for clear, concise and uniform referencing of sources in academic and professional research papers. The APA formatting guide does not include guidelines for citing every possible type of source, including a movie with multiple directors. However, it is recommended that you cite such a source following the closest citation example that you can locate in the guide. Movies, including motion pictures and Internet films, provide credit to both the producer and the director. For films with multiple directors, cite all the names.

Instructions

    • 1

Type the name of the producer in the following format: last name, first and middle initials. Next place the word "Producer" in parenthesis after the name. Add a comma after the parenthesis.

    • 2

Key in an ampersand and then the name of the first director in the following format: last name, first and middle initials. Place an ampersand after the first director's name and list the second directors' name. Place the word "Directors" in parenthesis. Close this portion of the citation with a period.

This part of the citation will be formatted like this: Producer's Last Name, First and Middle Initials (Producer), & Director 1's Last Name, First and Middle Initials & Director 2's Last Name, First and Middle Initials (Directors).

For movies with limited availability, follow with a comma then the address of the studio or distributor where the movie can be obtained, with the entire section of the citation enclosed in parenthesis. Close the citation with a period.

The full citation will be formatted like this: Producer's Last Name, First and Middle Initials (Producer), & Director 1's Last Name, First and Middle Initials & Director 2's Last Name, First and Middle Initials (Directors).
