How to Cite Two Sources Simultaneously in the APA Style

APA style is the official research paper format and citation style of the American Psychological Association. APA guides researchers in how to format their research papers and how to reference their sources. APA uses parenthetical references in conjunction with a references list containing full citations to document a paper's sources. The style is widely used in the social sciences. It is not uncommon for a researcher to cite two articles or studies that corroborate and support one another on a key piece of information for the research paper. In such a case, you will want to cite both of the sources you consulted that posit and support this point.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert an in-text parenthetical reference immediately following the material you wish to cite. Start with an open parenthesis.

    • 2

Write the surname(s) of the first author(s) followed by a comma and the year of publication for the first work you are citing.

    • 3

Separate the first citation from the second with a semi-colon.

    • 4

Write the surname(s) of the second author(s) followed by a comma and the year of publication for the second work you are citing.

    • 5

Finish your parenthetical reference with a closed parenthesis and the appropriate punctuation.

    • 6

Create separate entries for each citation on your references page. These should be listed alphabetically by author's surname.
