How to Cite a Newscast in APA Style

All sources need to be cited when publishing a piece of writing such as a research paper or editorial article. The American Psychological Association established the APA style guide for associated research papers to follow when documenting sources. APA requires that all sources be cited, including information gathered from television, such as a newscast. This way, anyone fact-checking the paper or those who wish to seek out further information are easily able to do so.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the names and producers of the specific newscast. Most often, the producers are listed at the end of the broadcast or they can be located on the television station's website. List the producers at the beginning of the citation and by last name first, with a comma in between, followed by a period. For example, Last name, First name.

    • 2

List the date of the broadcast, beginning with the year, ending with a period and encased in parenthesis, as in (2011, July 16).

    • 3

Place the name of the news show next, in italics and ending in a period, such as, 60 Minutes.

    • 4

Record the city and state that the broadcast is filmed in, along with the network channel on which it is broadcasted, separated by a colon and ending with a period. For example, Washington, D.C.: CBS News.
