Open a new document in your word processing program. Set up your critical thinking paper on an 8.5-inch by 11-inch paper with one-inch margins on all four sides. APA style recommends 12 pt. Times New Roman font, but you may use any font that is easy to read. Double-space the title page.
Switch your word processing program to header mode (if available). Type the page number in the right section of the page right-aligned to appear in the upper right corner of the page. Many word processing programs have a feature that changes the page numbers automatically. In the left corner of the paper, and on the same line, type “Running head:” in sentence case followed by the title of the critical thinking paper in all capital letters. This is a running header. Include a running header on all pages of your critical essay including the title page. If your word processing program has no header mode, you must type the running header at the top of each page in your paper including the title page.
Example:
Running head: CRITICAL THINKING PAPER TITLE 1
Type the title of your paper in proper case, centered in the upper half of the page. According to the American Psychological Association, your title should be limited to 12 words, and should not contain unnecessary words and abbreviations, and be no more than two lines long.
Example:
Why Dr. Martin Luther King’s Words Remains Relevant in Modern Times
Type the author’s name (yours) in proper case centered below the title; type first name first.
Example:
Gloria Clark
Type the institutional affiliation in proper case centered below the author’s name.
Example:
Harvard University
