How to Create a Title Page in APA Format

The American Psychology Association, or APA, posts its own style guide for creating research papers. Most scientific majors tend to follow the APA format for papers, meaning that your professor or journal will want you to write the title page of your paper in APA format, which is different from other formats.

Instructions

    • 1

Create a page header. This consists of the first three words of the title, followed underneath by the page number "1." Both of these lines are flush right at the top of the page.

    • 2

Type "Running head" followed by a brief three- to five-word sentence consisting of keywords pertaining to your paper, below the page header. The keywords should all be typed in capital letters. So if your paper is about determining the difference between walrus brains and sheep brains, you could write, "Running head: WALRUS AND SHEEP BRAIN DIFFERENCE." This line is flush left.

    • 3

Type the title of your paper in the middle of the page and center it. Capitalize important words, such as nouns and verbs. Do not exceed 12 words. It can be double-spaced if it takes two lines.

    • 4

Type your name two lines below the title, followed by the name of your university or college on the line below it, and the month and year you are writing the paper on the bottom line. Be sure to double-space so that each line is two lines below the one above it. All lines should be centered below the title.
