In academic writing, a mistake in formatting can lead to rejection or a poor grade on an otherwise acceptable paper. Because headers are the first thing your reviewers see, you take care to format them correctly. Social and natural science departments commonly require students to use American Psychological Association style for papers. APA style calls for a headers at the top of every page in a document, including the title page. Headers consist of the title of the document and page numbers, with a slightly different format on the title page.
