Collect all relevant information regarding the product label. This includes the website information, the physical product or journal article. The source needs to be completely and accurately cited.
Cite the publication information in your research paper by including the author of the publication or product information and date of publication. For example, place the last name of the author and date of a journal that mentions the product information at the end of a sentence as -- (Jones, 2009). Alternatively, include the author information at the beginning of the sentence. For example, "Jones found in a recent study that anti-depressants cause sleep deprivation (2009)." To directly cite the product label, use the name of the company and its copyright date.
Create a reference sheet to be placed at the end of the paper. Label the sheet "References"; center it at the top of the sheet. Do not change the font size or format. The references need to be in alphabetical order and double-spaced. All lines following the first line of each reference are indented, which is called a hanging indentation. Place the author's last name first, followed by the first name. All major words in the title of publication are capitalized.
Format the product label in the reference sheet as follows: Company Name. (Date). Product Name (in italics, plus the type of document in brackets). Location. If you are unable to find a date, write the date that you viewed the product.
For example, a physical product label is cited as follows: Johnson & Johnson. (2011). Acuvue [Contact Box Label]. New York, New York.
If you have found the label within a publication, cite the publication as follows: Author. (Date of Publication). Title of Article. Title of Publication (in italics). Location: Publisher.
