WebCE (see Resources) provides web-based continuing education for a wide range of insurance professionals and professional designations. The company provides over 600,000 self-study courses that include annuities, long-term care, flood insurance and required ethics training. WebCE states that it offers Internet test taking and immediate grading, as well as automatic reporting to states that make electronic reporting available. Single courses start at just under $5.
CEU.com (see Resources) started in 1999 with the merger of Online Teaching International and Graduate School Online. CEU.com is now aligned with the Institutes, one of the largest continuing education providers in the United States. Courses through CEU.com are approved in all state insurance departments, including the District of Columbia. Courses also have received approval for continuing education credit from the American College, the CPCU Society, the CFP Board, the Insurance Regulatory Examiners Society and the Insurance Education Association.
The Insurance Education Association (IEA), founded in 1876, provides more than 300 workers' compensation, disability management and property casualty courses through web-based training, workshops and self-study programs. The IEA serves clients in the Western United States and provides education to about 5,000 students annually. IEA also offers interactive telelearning seminars, in which students are may communicate with instructors through email, discussion boards, chat rooms and telephone. To register for continuing education courses, individuals can enroll via the IEA website (see Resources) as well as by telephone, fax or regular mail.
The Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America offers Virtual University to members so they have access to professional designations and continuing education. Its website (see Resources) offers a research library, professional designation courses, and errors and omissions education. Links are provided to state websites for continuing education courses that meet individual state requirements.
