TEA Accredited Distance Colleges

The TEA or Texas Education Agency works together with the State Board of Education to monitor and check progress in public schools. This include grades K through 12 and higher education. There are a few colleges approved by the TEA in Texas that offer distance learning.
  1. Texas State University at San Marcos

    • Texas State University in cooperation with Round Rock Educational Center offers distance and extended learning opportunities. A full variety of online classes in many fields are offered (accounting, tech applications, human growth and database management systems). There are no complete degree programs specifically available from the distance and extended learning office, however students can choose from many courses that will complement their educational and career goals. Federal financial aid is available and students are encouraged to complete a FAFSA to determine individual eligibility.

    The University of Texas

    • The K through 16 Education Center at the University of Texas is an alternative high school program that offers students the chance to complete credits through a distance learning path. The school, while primarily catering to high school completion does offer dual credits. This path helps students achieve not only their high school diploma, but offers credits towards a college degree. This institution is also accredited by American Association for Collegiate Independent Study.

    Center for Advanced Legal Studies

    • The Center for Advanced Legal Studies is recognized by the Texas Education Agency. There are three ways in which students can attend classes: in person, online through distance learning or in a blended program consisting on online and in-person participation. The institution offers a certificate in paralegal studies, as well as an associates degree option. The certificate program consists of 30 college credit hours and the associate option contains a total of 62 college credits to be completed for graduation. As of early 2011 each credit hour cost $350. The school does participate in federal financial aid.

    Blinn College

    • Blinn College is recognized by the Texas Education Association as a public university and is also accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The school offers students associate of arts and associate of applied science degrees in many different fields. Blinn College offers students the option to take single courses through the online format or work towards completing a degree. The school participates in federal financial aid to help students cover the cost of tuition.
