Where to Get Your GED

The American Council on Education developed the general equivalency diploma or GED to assist individuals who have not earned traditional high school diplomas. The certificate is equivalent to a diploma, however individuals are required to pass a five-subject knowledge examination to obtain it. Exams are available anywhere in the United States, Canada and internationally. Official GED tests are not administered online. You have to take the proctored exam at a qualified location in order to obtain the diploma.
  1. GED Test Locations

    • The American Council on Education's website provides extensive information on GED testing requirements and locations. A directory contains online resources for test preparation; it is searchable by state or zip code. You can also contact individuals who can provide direction to locations for GED preparation classes and programs. There are also listings to assist speakers of other languages in finding suitable testing locations. International testing centers are available to foreign nationals and United States citizens living abroad who wish to take the exam.

    Changes to Testing Standards

    • The education council will be changing current 2002 series GED standards starting in 2012. This series will be updated to reflect the educational standards of today's high school students. You will not be able to combine scores received from the previous series with the current one. All tests must be completed and passed before 12/31/2011 to qualify for 2002 series minimum passing requirements.
