LPN to RN Programs in Pennsylvania

LPNs, or licensed practical nurses, provide basic patient care and perform duties such as taking vital signs, administering injections and assisting patients with activities of daily living. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average yearly income for an LPN is approximately $20,000 less than that of an RN, or registered nurse. Pennsylvania colleges such as Delaware County Community College, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, La Salle University and Marywood University offer LPN to RN programs to help LPNs advance in the nursing profession.

    • Delaware County Community College, located in Media, Pennsylvania, offers an LPN to RN program. To be considered for admission to the Advanced Placement LPN program, applicants must live in Pennsylvania. Additionally, applicants must take the Nurse Entrance Test and receive a minimum score of 60 percent in Essential Math Skills, 70 percent in Reading Comprehension and a combined score of 65 percent. Applicants must have a current LPN license with at least 1,000 hours of clinical work experience within the past two years.

    Indiana University of Pennsylvania

    • Beginning the fall semester of 2010, Indiana University of Pennsylvania's Northpointe and Main campuses will offer an LPN to Bachelor's in Nursing (BSN) program. The program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and will admit between 25 to 30 students. The curriculum includes courses such as College Writing, College Chemistry, Physiology, Anatomy, Psychology, Statistics, Health Assessment, Professional Nursing and A Cognitive Approach to Clinical Problem Solving.

    La Salle University

    • La Salle University's School of Nursing and Health Sciences offers an LPN to BSN program designed to prepare students to become registered nurses. The program strives to teach professional nursing skills such as health counseling, promoting good heath, caring for the ill as well as enhance critical thinking skills. LPNs must successfully complete 126 credits to complete the program. Admission requirements include a minimum of 60 liberal arts/science credits and a minimum GPA of 3.0.

    Marywood University

    • Marywood University, located in Scranton, Pennsylvania, offers an LPN to BSN program to allow career advancement to an RN degree. The program melds science, liberal arts, career development and advanced nursing education together to provide the knowledge and clinical skills that are needed to practice as an RN. Applicants must be able to perform nursing related physical tasks and may be required to take an entrance examination.
