trainCast LLC

• trainCast LLC offers training that will allow you to apply for your security guard license for the state of California. You must be at least 18 years old, and in addition to the training, you're required to have a criminal history background check through the California Department of Justice and the FBI. The trainCast program includes a state-mandated eight hours of training. The topics you'll study include weapons of mass destruction, public relations, workplace violence and fire safety. Upon completion of the training, trainCast will administer the open-book Power to Arrest test, which you must pass with a score of 100 percent. You may re-take the test as often as necessary, free of charge, until you pass.

NY Security Guard Training Center

• The NY Security Guard Training Center offers security guard training that complies with the New York State Department of State and the Security Guard Act of 1992. The center's program includes an eight-hour training course where you'll cover such topics as the role of a security guard, legal powers and limitations, emergency situations, communications and public relations and ethics and conduct. Upon successful completion of this course, you'll receive a training certificate, which you can use to register with the Department of State. You then have 90 days to complete 16 hours of on-the-job training for which the center supplies the required curriculum. Additionally, each year you must complete another eight-hour training course in order to renew your license.

Stratford Career Institute

• Stratford Career Institute offers a distance learning security/police sciences program. All course material is delivered to your home, and you'll have instructor support via email and telephone. The coursework consists of five modules. In the first module you'll study introduction to investigation and law enforcement and such topics as the criminal justice system, the crime scene and types of evidence. The second module, the Security Handbook, looks at safety, report writing and law procedures. In the introduction to private security module, you'll study legal liability, computer security and public relations. The fourth module provides additional information with more concepts of private security. The final module looks at police and society.
