The Healing Arts Institute, located in the Citrus Heights suburb, offers three massage therapy certification programs, with certificates given at 126, 250 and 500 hours of training. The first level offers a basic idea of the job you'll be doing and provides a good way for you to find out if you like the work. The 250-hour program adds a 50-hour anatomy class, along with 74 hours of electives to the basic course. The 500-hour certification program enables you to take more elective classes to broaden your education. Instruction is based on the Swedish style of massage, but you will also be able to take classes that cover reflexology, lymphatic massage, deep tissue, joint mobilization and trigger point techniques, as well as specific instruction for massage therapy for pregnant women, children, cancer victims, abuse victims and elderly clients. The goal of the school is to help you find your innate healing ability.
