Westec’s court reporting program typically takes students three years to complete. The first course that students are required to take is a course in theory that lasts for 16 weeks and teaches students how to use the steno machine. After students have completed theory, they take speed building and gain experience by listening to recordings and live speakers. In addition to learning the steno machine, students must also take other courses such as medical terminology, business law and punctuation, and legal terminology.
