Santa Monica College offers an LVN to associate degree in nursing (ADN) career ladder program, providing LVNs the opportunity to pursue an ADN to become RNs. The LVN to RN program is three semesters in length, not including prerequisites. To be considered for admission, applicants must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5 and have a valid California LVN license with IV certification.

Los Angeles Trade-Technical College offers LVNs advanced placement in the college's RN program leading to associate of science in nursing degree. LVNs have the opportunity to enter in the third semester of the program. LVNs typically attend the college for two semesters to complete their RN training, not including prerequisite classes, which include anatomy and physiology and microbiology. To be considered for admission to the program, applicants must have a minimum grade point average of 2.0 in all prerequisite classes.

Moorpark College offers LVNs the opportunity for advanced placement into the college's RN program leading to the completion of an ADN. LVNs may be granted a maximum of two semesters or 18 credits towards the ADN. LVNs are accepted into the ADN program twice a year, in the fall and spring. In order to be considered for admission, applicants must have an overall grade point average of 2.5 and have earned a grade of C or better in all prerequisite classes.

Southwestern College, located in Chula Vista, offers an LVN Step-Up program, allowing LVNs to become RNs and complete an ADN. The one-year program admits students each summer. To be considered for admission, applicants must have at least one year of work experience as LVNs in sub-acute or acute care or have graduated from an LVN program within the last six months. Applicants must also have completed anatomy and physiology and microbiology with a cumulative science grade point average of 2.5.
