RN Schools in Central California

Central California is located near both San Francisco and Los Angeles. The region measures nearly 26,000 miles and encompasses the counties of Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, Merced, San Joaquin, Stanislaus and Tulare. There is a wide range of schools in Central California with registered nursing (RN) programs.
  1. College of the Sequoias

    • College of the Sequoias is located in the city of Visalia, which is in the heart of the San Joaquin Valley. The college offers registered nurse (RN) and licensed vocational nurse to registered nurse (LVN-RN) bridge programs. The RN program is a traditional two-year program leading to an Associate of Science degree. The LVN-RN bridge program is a three-semester program also leading to an Associate of Science degree. Both programs admit applicants based on overall grade-point average in prerequisite courses and a minimum score of 67 percent on the TEAS (Test for Essential Academic Skills).

    Fresno City College

    • Fresno City College (FCC) opened in 1910. It is California's oldest community college and the second-oldest community college in the United States. The nursing program at FCC is California's largest program. It awards an Associate of Science degree. Admission into the program is through a lottery process. This gives all eligible students an equal chance for admission into the program.

    Hartnell College

    • Hartnell Community College serves Monterey County, California. The RN program is four semesters in length and awards an Associate of Science degree. It accepts LVN-to-RN applicants on a limited basis. Admission into the program depends on prerequisite-course GPA and overall college-coursework GPA. The TEAS must be completed with a score of 67 percent or higher.

    Merced College

    • Located in the central San Joaquin Valley, Merced College serves most of Merced county and areas of Madera county in California. Applicants are encouraged to take a six-hour online nursing career seminar before submitting an application for the program. A student can apply for one of three tracks: a two-year registered nursing program, a one-year LVN-to-RN associate's degree program and an LVN-to-RN non-degree program.

    California State University, Fresno

    • The Fresno campus is one of 23 California State University campuses. Fresno offers a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. Students must be accepted into the university and then into the program. Admission is competitive and grade based, with an emphasis on prerequisite-course GPA.
