    • Pittsburgh Iron Workers is a member of the Iron Workers Local Union No. 3 in Western Pennsylvania and Erie. The union represents workers employed in downtown Pittsburgh's high-rise projects and surrounding regions. Also known as "Cowboys in the sky," the ironworker's union represents more than 1,300 members. Apprenticeship training at the union is open to qualified candidates seeking hands-on experience in ironwork. In addition to receiving practical training, candidates receive hourly stipends that range from $16 to $26. Prospective applicants must meet specific eligibility criteria and be 18 years old or older with a high school diploma or GED. The program runs for three years; at the end of the apprenticeship, candidates will be considered for full-time employment.

    Steamfitters

    • Founded in 1913, Steamfitters Local 449 represents 1,500 union members who are highly-skilled pipe fitters and craftsmen. Qualified candidates who wish to be considered for apprenticeship programs at the union must be U.S. citizens who are 18 years old or older. In addition to having a high school diploma or GED, applicants must have a valid driver's license and pass drug and alcohol screening. The five-year probationary apprenticeship training includes two nights of classroom instruction and hands-on job training. Candidates will receive a salary and a raise every six months. Prospective applicants can select from either the mechanical equipment service or building trades apprenticeship programs.

    Builders Guild

    • The Builders Guild is a nonprofit organization that represents numerous trade unions and contractor associations in the building trade including boilermakers, bricklayers, electricians and sheet metal workers. The association represents more than 40,000 workers and 400 contractors. Apprenticeship programs at the guild are open to practicing journeymen and new applicants. Candidates selected for apprenticeships will receive free training and wages as well as health benefits.
