Social Work Courses in Ireland

The country of Ireland is unique in its classification, as it was previously one country, but is both an integral part of the United Kingdom as well as its own nation. The United Kingdom's Northern Ireland, as well as the larger body known as the Republic of Ireland, comprise a population of approximately 6 million residents. The countries offer various educational opportunities, including options for students seeking programs in the field of Social Work.
  1. University of Ulster-BSc

    • The University of Ulster, founded in 1984, offers a number of higher education options, to more than 23,000 students on four campuses. The university offers a bachelor of science program, which is either two or three years in duration, depending upon the prior experience of the student. Many students pursue the general three-year program, but the two-year is a hastened option for students who already hold a bachelor's degree in a social science, or have a percentage of courses taken that pertain to social work, or medical professional recognition. Potential students must submit an essay focused on the field, of a total of 600 words, participate in an interview process, and register with the Northern Ireland Social Care Council (NISCC.) Coursework will include studies in psychology, law, and social policy. Students also have the option to study at Belfast Metropolitan College or South West College, which has four campuses of its own, allowing coursework completion for a two-year period prior to transferring to the university's Magee campus. Those interested in the two-year degree, however, may only study at Magee. Contact the program with any questions.
