London South Bank University was established in 1892 and offers its roughly 25,000 students coursework in a variety of disciplines. Students desiring to study social work may pursue a bachelor of arts degree, or a master of science/postgraduate diploma in the field. The undergraduate offering can be completed in three years, and for the 50 students allowed entry every year, matriculation begins in September. Potential graduate degree students will undertake a two-year course of study. Courses also begin in September for a total of 35 students. Students embarking on the master's degree option are required to prepare a thesis, while the postgraduate diploma seekers need not do so. Coursework includes social work methods and communication skills, and professional practice, among others. Applicants to the graduate program must have worked in social work for at least one year.

London Metropolitan University was founded in 2002 after two colleges combined, and for students seeking a social work program the university offers a bachelor of science and master of science in social work, as well as a bachelor of science in applied social work studies. Social work degree seekers in the undergraduate program will participate in a three-year study plan, while master's degree students will study for a total of two years. Students of the bachelor's program will take a total of 120 credits, and may study either full-time or part-time. Part-time study, however, is only offered for students whose degree is funded by an employer. The University of East London was established in 1992 and offers undergraduate and graduate degree options for social work students. The bachelor's degree is three years for most students, but four-year study options are available to individuals whose employers support their education. Undergraduates receive assistance from a tutor, as well, for support with any potential study issues. Graduate degree seekers study for two full years, and those wishing to gain admission must possess a bachelor's degree. Prospective students must also demonstrate that they have worked in the field for no fewer than six months. The program, in addition to general coursework, also involves concurrent work environment learning.
