Florida Colleges for Social Work

Universities all over the state of Florida offer social work programs. Social workers help individuals and families get through issues such as abuse problems, unemployment, adoption/foster care situations, drug abuse and diseases. According to Indeed.com, as of July 2010 the average yearly salary for social workers in Florida is $57,000.
  1. University of West Florida

    • The University of West Florida is located in Pensacola, Florida, and its social work program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. UWF offers a bachelor's degree and a master's degree program. The bachelor's degree program requires the completion of 45 credit hours in social work courses, choice of electives, and two field experiences. Some of the coursework includes human behavior in the social environment, interviewing and recording and working with individuals and families. Minors are offered are in social welfare, child welfare, substance abuse and an interdisciplinary minor in aging studies. The master's program requires the completion of 63 credits hours on a full-time or part-time basis, and completion of the field practicum and internship.

    University of South Florida

    • The University of South Florida is a public university located in Tampa, Florida. USF offers an undergraduate degree program and two graduate degree programs in social work. All programs are accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. The bachelor’s degree program requires the completion of 60 credit hours and 480 hours in field placement which must be achieved 32 hours weekly. Some of the coursework includes introduction to social work, the American social welfare system and multi-cultural America. The master’s degree program requires the completion of 60 hours part-time or full-time and also the completion of a field education component with a minimum of 900 hours. The doctoral program requires 60 hours of coursework and dissertation work of 24 hours which is taken within the last years of study.

    Florida Atlantic University

    • Florida Atlantic University is a public university with multiple campus locations in south Florida. At the main campus in Boca Raton, FAU offers a bachelor's degree program as well as a master's degree program. Both of the programs offered at FAU are accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Required coursework to obtain a bachelor’s degree includes 39 credit hours, 21 elective credits and field education experience. Some of the coursework includes social work practice, research method in social work and human behavior and the social environment. The master’s degree program can be completed in two years. It requires 60 credit hours. This degree also allows part- time or full time scheduling and the completion of a field practicum is required for graduation.
