    • Middle Tennessee State University collaborates with Tennessee State University and Austin Peay State University to offer students the Mid-Tennessee Collaborative Master of Social Work program. Students first must choose their home campus as the program is run through all three. Students not only have classmates within their home campus but also interact with students in other campuses through online courses. Students must complete 60 semester hours through either a two-year full-time program or a four-year part-time program, composed of both foundation courses (30 credits) as well as concentration in advanced generalist practice courses (30 credits). Foundation courses include human behavior and the social environment, research, social welfare policy and services whereas concentration courses include advanced practice with individuals, families, groups, social policy analysis as well as empirical social work practice. Students are also required to complete a total of 900 hours of internship experience in which to develop and use skills and techniques that are being discussed and taught within the classroom environment.

    • Preparing students to promote knowledge, values and skills of social work practice as well as providing services in a cultural competent manner to diverse groups is just a few of the goals of the master's of social work program at East Tennessee State University. The university offers several different options for students to attend the program, whether they are traditional full-time or part-time students of those of advance standing. Classroom instruction as well as field placement experience is used to teach and develop the student's communication skills, self-awareness, application of appropriate assessment skills and theory-based clinical framework as well as understanding and applying information about agencies functions as well as interactions within the community.

    The University of Tennessee, Knoxville

    • The University of Tennessee offers a master's of science in social work program for students located within its Knoxville, Memphis and Nashville campuses. Several programs of study are available to meet the needs of various students such as a full-time, extended study, advanced standing, part-time or distance education program. All students, regardless of program, must meet several requirements to receive their degrees. A minimum of 60 semester credits need to be completed including 30 hours of foundation courses and field practice as well as 30 hours of course work and field practice within a clinical or social welfare management practice as well as maintaining at least a 3.0 grade point average (on 4.0 scale). All graduates much also meet requirements laid out by the graduate school program as well. The goals of the program are to promote advanced critical thinking skills, demonstrate and promote social work ethics and values, teach students to practice within a culturally affirming manner as well as evaluate, synthesize and apply research within the practice field.
