Philadelphia Cosmetology Programs

Cosmetology programs provide the training and tools for people who wish to pursue careers as a hair stylist, barber, nail technician, makeup artist, esthetician or massage therapist. A handful of schools in the Philadelphia area offer courses and certifications in the cosmetology field. Accredited cosmetology schools in Philadelphia also offer financial aid and scholarships.

      The American Beauty Academy offers a cosmetology program that includes design, cutting, coloring, multicultural techniques, makeup, fashion trends and the art of hairdressing. Specialized courses in esthetics and nails are also available. The American Beauty Academy includes a training program for students who wish to become cosmetology instructors. The academy provides both part-time and full-time programs that last anywhere from 9 to 12 months. Students may take advantage of financial aid and tuition payment plans.

    Jean Madeline Aveda Institute

    • Makeup technique is an integral part of cosmetology programs.

      The Jean Madeline Aveda Institute has three locations in the Philadelphia area including southeast Philadelphia, northeast Philadelphia and on the University of Pennsylvania campus. The program includes full-time and part-time courses in modern hair cutting, color and texture services, skin care, nail technology and makeup. In addition to creative elements of the cosmetology field, students also learn business and retail techniques. High school seniors are eligible for scholarships and financial aid.

    Empire Beauty School

    • Some cosmetology programs offer business training.

      Empire Beauty School is a national cosmetology school chain with two locations in Philadelphia. The school trains both full-time and part-time students in cosmetology, hairstyling, nail technology and esthetics. A program is also offered for students interested in teaching cosmetology. All of the Empire Beauty School programs also include training in salon management and reception, communication, marketing and sales. Financial aid is available for qualifying students.

    • Cosmetology schools offer specialized programs in nail care.

      PB Cosmetology Education Centre is in New Jersey, just outside of Philadelphia. The school was founded in 1960 and offers a 10-month full-time and 19-month part-time curriculum including cosmetology, nail care, skin care and teacher training. Scholarships are available.
