Calculate the amount of work experience you have working on cars. ASE certification in automotive repair requires two years of work experience in that particular field. Collision repair and other automobile-related experience does not count toward automotive repair certification.
Take ASE practice tests and examine the results to determine areas where you need more knowledge. Practice tests can be obtained from ASE. ASE test prep books and materials are available through major book retailers.
Increase your knowledge by taking classes at an adult education center or community college. Another way to improve your skills it to work under direct supervision of an ASE-certified professional.
