Community Colleges That Offer Room & Board in Michigan

There are many community colleges in Michigan, but only a few of them offer the opportunity for on-campus living that so many of their four-year counterparts do. Living on campus provides an affordable lifestyle, convenience to classes and regular access to the school's facilities.
  1. Bay de Noc Community College

    • Bay de Noc Community College in Escanaba (formerly Bay College) is located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The school was founded in 1962 and focuses on providing occupational programs and vocational training to help students find a career. The college also offers transfer programs for those who want to continue on to a four-year university.

Bay de Noc offers limited student housing in the form of on-campus apartments. There are 21 apartments with room for four residents and eight apartments with living space for two. The housing is $1,200 per student, per semester to rent, and cable, Internet access, local phone and all utilities are included in the price.

    Jackson Community College

    • Jackson Community College in Jackson was founded in 1928 as Jackson Junior College. The college originally shared facilities with a nearby high school, but the school became its own entity in 1964. Later the college moved to its current 500-acre campus. Forty-seven percent of Jackson Community College's 9,000 students are enrolled full-time.

Student housing is located in an apartment complex known as Campus View 1 and Campus View 2. The two modern apartment buildings house 96 students each and are within a short walk of all other campus facilities, including the dining commons, library and fieldhouse. Campus View is a new addition to the college. The administration says that students living on campus tend to have higher grades, greater success in college and a higher rate of completion.
