Community Colleges With Dorms in Michigan

The state of Michigan offers a variety of two-year institutions with on-campus housing. To save money on tuition as well as have a more flexible class schedule, community colleges are a common way for students, young and old, to enter higher education. Consequently, in recent decades more community colleges nationwide are installing community housing.
  1. Jackson Community College

    • As of 2010 Jackson Community College educated nearly 12,000 students yearly. The community college's dorms received a "Gold Rating" in the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Rating System by the U.S. Green Building Council in 2010. The college offers dorm rooms are apartment-style suites with hardwood floors, four single bedrooms, two bathrooms and a full eat-in kitchen.

    Northwestern Michigan College

    • Located in Traverse City, Northwestern Michigan College has on-campus dorms and apartments. The campus housing offers study rooms, nearby restaurants and shopping centers as well academic support centers. By applying to the college's financial aid and scholarships, it is also possible to reduce housing costs.

      Dorms offer each student a bed, dresser, desk, chair, bookshelves and closets. In each room, there is also telephone hookup with free local calling, wireless Internet cable TV hookup with free basic services, semi-private bathroom/shower and a flexible meal plan.

    Southwestern Michigan College

    • Southwestern Michigan College offers a variety of associate's degrees and also prepares students for four-year institutions. The school's main campus is located in Dowagiac, Michigan and a satellite campus was later constructed in Niles, Michigan.

      Thirty-three percent of the first year students at the community college live on campus; the dorms are coed. The college's student housing has 130 beds. All suites are fully-furnished.

    North Central Michigan College

    • The North Central Michigan College growing campus boasts a student and community resource center, physical education and recreation facilities, computer labs and a tutoring center. As of 2008-2009, the college provided on-campus housing for 148 of its 1,471 students.

      Housing is coed by suite. Amenities include cable TV hook-up, high speed Internet access, desk, chair, bed and mattress, dresser and closet space. There are kitchen facilities, laundry facilities in each wing, recreation areas --- billiards, ping pong, big screen TV's and a weight room --- study lounge, community living space and a fitness center and gym next door.
