Junior Colleges in Ohio

Ohio is home to about 11.5 million people, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. The state includes several cities--from Columbus to Cleveland--and a wide range of junior colleges that offer technical training, associate degrees and classes to qualify for four-year universities.
  1. Cuyahoga Community College

    • Cuyahoga Community College, in Cleveland, offers associate degrees and certificate programs in subjects such as industrial technology, computer technology, art, anthropology, food and beverage operations, interior design, law enforcement, engineering, nursing, psychology, theater, urban studies and women's studies. The college offers distance learning options, with online courses and live cable classes. Cuyahoga features a library as well as a career services center to help students and graduates find jobs in their fields.

    Columbus State Community College

    • Columbus State Community College includes more than 23,000 students. The junior college offers distance learning, two-year career training programs, continuing education and courses that qualify toward achieving a bachelor's degree at four-year colleges. Academic areas of study include history, economics, psychology, biology, dance, speech, engineering, construction management, computers, and nursing. Columbus State Community College also offers student activities and athletics such as volleyball, golf and basketball. There are a variety of clubs and Greek organizations as well.

    Lakeland Community College

    • Lakeland Community College is located in Kirtland, a town in northeastern Ohio. The junior college features a library and a counseling center that includes mental health services, career services, a tutoring center and a writing center. Subjects at Lakeland Community College include accounting, real estate, journalism, engineering technology, mathematics, chemistry, biology, geography, history, sociology, travel and tourism, paralegal studies, economics, education and dental hygiene. Lakeland offers associate degrees and certificate programs. The college includes an International Education Center that encourages learning about cultures all over the world through on-campus programs as well as offers opportunities to study abroad. Lakeland also offers hands-on police training and criminal justice programs in cooperation with the local police department.
