Community Colleges in Ohio

The Ohio Association of Community Colleges reports that employment for graduates from community college programs in the state will increase by more than 18 percent through 2020, a rate more than double the average growth rate in employment opportunities expected in the state. Ohio is home to a number of community colleges, offering students the opportunity to pursue associate degrees and certificates at a low cost-per-credit, as well as to complete general education courses in preparation for transfer to a four-year school.
  1. Cuyahoga Community College

    • Established in 1963, Cuyahoga Community College is the oldest community college in Ohio, and with an enrollment of more than 55,000 students, it is also the largest. In addition to its main campus in Cleveland, the school also operates satellite campuses in Parma and Highland Hills Village. The school offers 140 programs, including industrial technology, management, computer science, fire technology and nursing.

    Owens Community College

    • With campuses in the Perrysburg suburb of Toledo and in the city of Findlay, Owens Community College has an enrollment of more than 20,000 students. The college boasts an average class size of only 15 and is divided into the Schools of Arts & Sciences, Business & Information Systems, Health Sciences, Nursing, Public Safety & Emergency Preparedness, and Technology.

    Cincinnati State Technical and Community College

    • Cincinnati State Technical and Community College has more than 15,000 students and offers day, evening and weekend courses. Students can select from more than 100 associate degree and certificate programs from the college's four units: Business Technologies, the Center for Innovative Technologies, Health and Public Safety, and Humanities and Sciences.

    Columbus State Community College

    • Established in 1963, Columbus State Community College has an enrollment of more than 23,000 students. In addition to its main campus and two branches in the state's capital, the college has seven additional satellite locations in the Columbus area, including in the communities of Dublin, Gahanna, Westerville, Groveport, Marysville, Delaware, Grove City and Plain City. The college offers more than 55 academic programs in business, health, public service and technical fields.

    Stark State College

    • Stark State College specializes in business, health science, information technology, engineering science and public services programs. The college's main campus is in North Canton, with satellite branches in Alliance, Carrollton and Canton. The school has an enrollment of more than 12,000 students, only 38 percent of whom study at the school full-time, according to the college's website.

    Sinclair Community College

    • Based in the Dayton area, Sinclair Community College boasts the lowest tuition rate among all of the state's community colleges, reports the school's official website. In addition to the main campus in Dayton, the school operates learning center campuses in Englewood, Huber Heights, Preble County, and on Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. The college offers more than 150 certificate and associate degree programs and over 180 online classes.
